The software helps students improve their skills in reading comprehension while providing teachers with measurable results. Students sharpen their ability to answer inference and factual questions. Reading Critically: Non-Fiction is a self-paced tutorial in which students do a variety of exercises for each text including writing their own sentences, doing a crossword puzzle, and responding to a two-answer question. In addition, this easy-to-use software provides interactive prompts and voice vocabulary to help students with word recognition. Included in this release are pre-tests, post-tests, and improved printouts of student work. In addition, the software now seamlessly integrates into Merit's management utility, which automatically tracks multiple student results and creates reports that help teachers monitor user progress. Reading Critically: Non-Fiction is designed for students who read at U.S. grade level 5.0 to 11.0, ages 10 and up. Reward sounds and graphics do not contain juvenile animations. Older students in ESL classes, adult literacy and GED prep programs, or college prep courses frequently use the software. Reading Critically: Non-Fiction is available in four sets, based on level of difficulty.
