Perspective - U.S. Students Need 21st Century Skills to Compete in a Global Economy

A new, nationwide poll of registered voters reveals that Americans are deeply concerned that the United States is not preparing young people with the skills they need to compete in the global economy. 80 percent of voters say that the skills students need to learn to be prepared for today's job market are different from what they needed 20 years ago. At the same time, 52 percent of Americans say that schools need to do a better job of keeping up with changing educational needs.

Grants for Educators - Verizon Foundation Literacy Grants Program

Technology has revolutionized how we live, learn and work. To participate in today's knowledge economy, people need a level of literacy and education that is unprecedented in history. Verizon's literacy and education grants provide several awards of $5-10,000 aimed at helping educators implement technology based literacy programs. Applications are due by November 30th, 2007.
