In this course, participants will explore how literature can support and supplement curriculum areas with upper elementary students. Participants will select one literary work covered in Merit Software's Book Punch collection and will learn how to use Book Punch to integrate reading and writing with meaningful project-based activities. Participants will also develop a technology-enhanced lesson plan to support at least one core curriculum area.
The course is lead by an instructor who moderates a bulletin-board style online discussion. Each course lasts twelve to fourteen weeks, depending on which section you are enrolled in. Participants have flexibility but are expected to participate in the online discussions, oversee their students use of Merit as a supplement to their in-class instruction, and write a paper summarizing their observations.
Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for this course from the Marshall University Graduate College.
Using Book Punch with your students is required for this course. If you have not purchased access to Book Punch, contact us for pricing and purchasing information.
