National School and Business Partnerships Awards
The Council for Corporate & School Partnerships is accepting applications for its 2005 National School and Business Partnerships Awards, which recognize outstanding examples of collaboration between businesses and schools to improve the student educational experience. The Council presents six awards per year. Those selected for the award receive national recognition, and the schools or districts receive $10,000 to support their partnership efforts.

AASL Collaborative School Library Media Award
This award recognizes and hopes to encourage collaboration and partnerships between school library media specialists and teachers in meeting educational goals outlined in Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning through joint planning of a program, unit, or event in support of the curriculum and using media center resources.

Books for Children
The Libri Foundation is a nationwide nonprofit organization that donates new, high-quality, hardcover children's books to small, rural public libraries in the United States through its Books for Children program. The books donated through the Books for Children program are used for storytelling; toddler, preschool, and after-school programs; summer reading programs; "book buddy" programs, ; and to just provide children with a "good read."

Cable's Leaders in Learning Awards
To honor innovative individuals who have made major contributions to transform K-12 learning in and out of the classroom, the cable industry's education foundation has launched the Cable's Leaders in Learning Awards. The competition is open to any individual working in U.S. communities who can demonstrate innovative practices or policies that have had an impact on K-12 education. Twelve winners will be selected in four categories. The nomination period opens Oct. 1.

Ciba Specialty Chemicals Exemplary Middle and High School Science Teaching Award
This program recognizes one middle level and one high school teacher who have demonstrated exemplary science teaching.

Congressional Research Award
The Dirksen Congressional Center invites applications for grants to fund research on congressional leadership and the U.S. Congress.

Distinguished School Administrators Award
Established in 1985, the $2,000 award honors a school administrator who has made worthy contributions to the operations of an exemplary school library media center and to advancing the role of the school library media center in the educational program. Nominations must be made by AASL personal members.

GSN Online Shared Learning Award
Educators who have successfully used and/or promoted use of online collaborative learning are eligible for this award. Candidates may not be self-nominated. Once a nomination is made, the candidate is contacted and chooses whether or not to continue the process. All information is available online.

Lemelson-MIT Awards for Invention and Innovation The Lemelson-MIT Awards Program
Lemelson-MIT Awards for Invention and Innovation The Lemelson-MIT awards program honors both established and rising inventors, for their ingenuity, creativity and contribution to American invention. The awards are part of a comprehensive program that recognizes the profound impact that individual ingenuity can have on all of society.

Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards
Since 1983, National Council for the Social Studies has annually honored the outstanding performance of teachers and encouraged unique and innovative social studies education projects through its award programs. NCSS, which defines social studies as "the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence," engages and supports educators in strengthening and advocating social studies at all levels and in all settings.
