Students receive practice in using basic reading improvement strategies. They work with interactive exercises to determine main idea, make inferences, and draw conclusions.

Assessments place students in appropriate units of instruction. Students advance as they demonstrate readiness. They receive immediate instructional feedback throughout.

Scores are automatically kept in a record management system that allows teachers to view and print detailed reports.

The questions, answers and explanations of the programs can be spoken aloud by using the Merit Text Talker.

Designed for students in grades 3 through 5 (ages 8 and up), the software can also be used by English language learners and older students.

• Each set contains 120 passages and 1,320 questions.
• Contextual help and feedback engage students of all ages.
• Students choose from a menu of reward animations and sounds.

Students will...

• Determine the main idea of a text and select a logical sentence to introduce or complete it, or choose an appropriate title to identify it.
• Identify the sequence of details in a text and select an additional supporting sentence that would logically fit in.
• Draw an inference by recognizing information learned from the text that is not actually stated.
• Determine the meaning of unfamiliar words by using other words or phrases in the text as clues.
