In North Carolina, end-of-grade (EOG) tests cover the curriculum
taught during that school year for each grade. The writing
test measures students’ writing skills at the time the
test is administered. The end-of-course (EOC) tests evaluate
mastery of the material covered in high school courses.
Reading and mathematics are core, foundation skills on which
other learning is based. That is why these standards are directed
at reading and mathematics in grades 3, 5 and 8 and writing
in grades 5 and 8, and graduation standards require proficiency
in broader subjects.
The exit exam is given in the spring of the student's 11th
grade year and is based on knowledge gained up to that point.
Merit’s Language Arts and Math software programs correlate
to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and grade level
competencies and can help students prepare for the EOG and
EOC tests as well as the exit exam. The content and format
of Merit’s programs can help students develop and strengthen
their test-taking skills as well as their reading, writing
and math skills.
Merit reading software has been proven -- through rigorous,
scientifically based research -- to increase both student
reading comprehension and standardized test scores. Merit
research study findings reveal that education software is
an effective tool to improve test scores and academic performance.
