The New York State Testing Program
The New York State Testing Program contains the following
tests at the Elementary-Intermediate Level: Grades 4 and 8
English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science; Grades 5 and
8 Social Studies; and Intermediate-Level Technology Education.
The tests measure students’ achievement of the New York
State Learning Standards. Additional tests include the New
York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT)
and Alternate Assessment for Students with Severe Disabilities.
At the High School level, the Board of Regents administers
the Regents Examinations in the following subjects: English
Language Arts, Languages Other Than English (French, Spanish,
German, Hebrew, Italian, and Latin), Mathematics, Social Studies
and Science. Merit’s language arts and math software programs correlate to the New York State Standards and can help students prepare for the State tests. The content and format of Merit’s programs can help students develop and strengthen their test-taking skills as well as their reading, writing and math skills. Merit reading software has been proven -- through rigorous, scientifically based research -- to increase both student reading comprehension and standardized test scores.
