We have just finished an assessment on a 6th grade ESL – spanish student and the team has determined that some of his reading difficulty could be attributed to the fact that he is ESL, but that he did not make gains in reading through the last year even with the additional supports provided to him. He is assessed to be proficient in oral language, listening and speaking, but below grade level in reading and did not makes any gains in reading, but actually scored lower in reading than the year before. Can you help me?
We’ve helped many ESL students improve their reading skills. I’m sure we can help you too. Take a look at Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading and Reading Comprehension Booster. Both programs provide targeted reading instruction in individual areas of concern. Essential concepts are broken down into understandable parts and students apply skills as they learn them. Reading Comprehension Booster helps students sharpen their critical thinking skills. Students work with exercises to determine main idea, make inferences and draw conclusions. It is designed for students reading at a 3rd through 5th grade level. Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading goes from the 5th through 8th grade reading levels.
