Merit Question and Answer
Alternative high school students need help in all areas

QUESTION:

Area of Concern: Help with all Subjects
Submitted by: Teacher
Grade Level: High School
Competency: Below Level
I teach at an alternative high school. Reading ability by most students is below grade level. All academic areas are of concern. Students have no outside reading interests. Vocabulary is limited as are their life experiences. Many have never ventured more than 30 miles from their home. Any help will be appreciated.

ANSWER:

We've helped many high school students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Our most popular programs for this purpose are Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading for Upper Grades and Vocabulary Stretch.

Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Upper Grades helps students improve their reading comprehension and develops their ability to make inferences. It is designed for students who read at a 8th to 11th grade level.

Vocabulary Stretch is vocabulary-building software that helps students recognize words in different contexts and understand where many English words come from. It is designed for students in grades 4 through 10.
