We are using Writer's Workshop at my school and, quite frankly, we need something with a little more substance and models specific writing strategies for students. The master teachers are telling us to do more direct teaching and move away from the idea, from this workshop, that writing should come naturally to kids. They say kids are NOT natural writers and must be taught. I tend to agree. What supplemental materials can you suggest?
We've helped many elementary school students improve their writing skills. Our most popular program for this purpose is Starter Paragraph Punch. It is a guided writing tutorial. Using their own words students learn to write a basic paragraph in details, sequence, examples and reasons. Tips and explanations are provided throughout.
