Merit Question and Answer
Some of my students are below reading level

QUESTION:

Area of Concern: Reading Comprehension
Submitted by: Teacher
Grade Level: Middle School
Competency: Below Level
Some of my students are below reading level. I've tried just about everything to bring them up to level, but nothing is working. I need to try something else, please help.

ANSWER:

Thanks for your inquiry. We have helped many students to improve their reading skills.

Our most popular program for this purpose is Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading. The program helps students improve their reading comprehension and develops their ability to make inferences. It is designed for students who read at 5th through 8th grade levels.

Sometimes below level students also need vocabulary help. If this is the case, try Vocabulary Stretch too. It covers root words and origins. It is for students who read at a 4th through 9th grade level.

Both programs are self-paced and self-advancing. As a result, they are frequently used in classes with pupils of mixed ability levels.
