Merit Question and Answer
I need help with my middle school class beginning reading skills

QUESTION:

Area of Concern: Reading Comprehension
Submitted by: Teacher
Grade Level: Middle School
Competency: Below Level
Hello,

I am a teacher at a middle school teacher in New York and my students are struggling with their beginning reading skills, specifically reading comprehension. The class is below level and I wanted to know what I could do to help them perform better. With the new common core, I am worried that we will have challenges passing state examination.

Thanks.

ANSWER:

It seems that your classroom would benefit greatly from our programs. It is not uncommon for middle school students to feel challenged by reading fundamentals.

For your classroom I recommend Reading Skill Builder. This program helps students sharpen their reading and critical thinking skills.

You may also want to consider the Intensive Reading Web Suite. In this program students learn how to use basic reading improvement strategies and write well-organized answers to open-ended questions. This is a more comprehensive package if you are looking for even more.
