Merit Question and Answer
ELLs Need Help with Reading

QUESTION:

Area of Concern: Reading Fundamentals

Submitted by: Teacher

Grade Level: Middle School

Competency: Below Level

My students are primarily Hispanics in middle school. They are able to answer high order thinking skills orally, but when it’s them to read independently, there’s a problem.

ANSWER:

Merit has helped many ELL middle school students improve their reading and comprehension skills.

Our most popular programs for this purpose are Reading Skill Builder and Reading Comprehension Booster.

Reading Skill Builder provides help with specific reading skills such as main idea, vocabulary and author’s purpose.

Reading Comprehension Booster helps students improve their reading comprehension and develops their ability to make inferences.

Both programs are suitable for students who read at U.S. grade equivalent levels 3.0 through 5.5 or high-beginner to low-intermediate English language learners.

Eventually your students should be able to use our advanced reading comprehension programs for reading levels 8.0 and above.
