The students here are from a rural area, many of which have not been outside their most immediate environment. They have a carefree attitude that shows they could care less if they attain knowledge of any sort, and many do not see the need to learn any more than their grandparents learned. They have been spoon-fed through many grades, and do not think for themselves.

We’ve helped many high school students improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Our most popular program for this purpose is Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading. The program helps students improve their reading comprehension and develops their ability to make inferences. It is designed for students who read at a 5th to 8th grade level. A more advanced version of the program goes from 8th to 11th grade reading levels.

Another Merit program that has helped students improve their critical thinking skills is Open Punch. It is an interactive writing tutorial in which students learn to present information in a clear and concise manner. Teachers assign writing topics based on personal tastes, timely events, or in response to texts student have read.
