Merit Question and Answer
Looking at web-based writing and grammar programs

Area of Concern: Writing Mechanics & Grammar

Submitted by: Teacher

Grade Level: Middle School

Competency: At Level

We’re looking at some web-based student-driven programs to increase skills in all areas, especially writing and grammar. I would like to present this to my School Improvement Team as an idea we can look into for next school year. We are also trying to find ways to include Response to Intervention and I’m thinking that this may be a good program to help our strugglers and support those at grade level as well.

Merit has helped many middle and high schools improve their students writing and grammar skills.

Our most popular programs for this purpose are Grammar Fitness – Intermediate and Paragraph Punch.

Grammar Fitness provides interactive, online English grammar exercises. The exercises cover a wide span of grammar concepts. The program’s built-in tutoring and scoring features create a personal grammar improvement experience for each student.

Paragraph Punch is an online writing tutorial in which students learn to present information in a clear and concise manner. The program guides students step-by-step through the process of completing a written work. They receive personal tips and suggestions while they write.

Student progress is automatically tracked, for both programs, in an easy-to-use online management system.

Merit Software's Solutions lists many more programs can help with your educational success. For a complete list, please visit Merit Solutions.
