Merit Question and Answer
Too Embarrassed to Go to Huntington Learning Center

QUESTION:

Area of Concern: Reading Comprehension

Submitted by: Parent

Grade Level: Special Education

Competency: Below Level

My son is in 6th grade. Reading comprehension is a struggle. In the past, we have sent him to Huntington Learning Center to work with a tutor. Now he tells me he is too embarrassed to continue going. Can your online reading comprehension software be used by parents at home? Does a tutor need to oversee his work?

ANSWER:

Merit’s online reading comprehension products are a great alternative to going to tutoring centers such as Huntington. Work on improving reading skills is best done on one’s own, without a tutor hovering over.

With Merit, students get immediate descriptive and immediate feedback and support while using the software. The best programs for this purpose are Reading Skill Builder and Developing Critical Thinking Skills for Effective Reading.
